It seems unreasonable to think that in my role I would be blaming a cyclist for their lawful activity regardless of whether or not there was an injury. I was asked if I thought S1st was unsafe for cycling and I responded that I believe it is unsafe for ALL road users, including drivers and pedestrians, and then pointed out specific reasons to support my belief. How they choose to cover the story and include content is another story.

I hope this event and the way in which it has been covered inspires more people to get involved whether it be to demand KXAN correct the false information in their story, share this article, email the City Council, write your representatives and/or support the organizations that are working to address theses issues. I appreciate Kat Hunter's effort in taking the lead and producing this very heartfelt and informative piece. --GarretGarrethttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11935491273433382789noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-991759810627080501.post-90767242258820052902015-08-07T10:16:01.765-07:002015-08-07T10:16:01.765-07:00JM, not really sure what you're getting at? I think there's no reason to say, "shame on Garret Nick" when KXAN's reporting was biased in the first place. It's highly likely that KXAN intentionally selected parts (and omitted others) of his statement to use in support of their article. And this is a sad trend in a lot of news stories about cyclists.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-991759810627080501.post-2356443944026786672015-08-07T09:58:57.093-07:002015-08-07T09:58:57.093-07:00The KXAN story inspired this article. Stop texting behind the wheel. Stop checking your email. 99% of car/cycling incidents could be prevented. So, Mr. Nick should not be lambasted. There is no need to pit cyclist-against-cyclist; the point is that the media is driving a very biased narrative on the relationship between unsafe driving practices and cycling, and that needs to be stopped.
